BOWLS NORTHAMPTONSHIRE


 In December 2012 an inaugural meeting

  was held with the purpose of merging 

 the Northamptonshire Bowls Association

  and the Women's County Bowls Association

  to form Bowls Northamptonshire. 


 At the time there were 52 Affiliated Bowls clubs

 in the County.


    A little bit of history

Northamptonshire Bowling Association. 

 On 8th March, 1906 a meeting was held at Franklins Hotel with the purpose of forming a

Bowls Association to be known as Northamptonshire Bowls Association (NBA)

The Manfield Cup was donated by Mr J. Manfield (Mayor of the Borough)

and his brother Mr Harry Manfield. M.P.

The following representatives were present.

Northampton Town and County Bowling Club

Kettering Lodge Bowling Club

A competition to be called the Manfield Cup would be played 

annually between Clubs and in 1906  five clubs participated.

 
 

 
Northamptonshire Women's County Bowling Association. 

A Meeting was held in a Cafe in Bridge Street Northampton in 1936 with the purpose of forming

a Womens Bowling Association to be known as

Northamptonshire Women's County Bowling Association (NWCBA)

The founder Clubs were:-

Abington Park BC

Beckett's Park BC

Delapre BC

Kingsthorpe Recreation BC

Racecourse BC

Rushden Park BC

Wellingborough Swanspool BC

These were all Park Greens as women were not allowed to play on the greens used by the men.

Officers Elected were:-

The Women continued to play throughout the war years 


Northamptonshire Honorary Vice Presidents Association. Founded 1964


Northamptonshire Bowls Youth Development Scheme (NBYDS)

In 2006 the Four Associations (Indoor and Outdoor men and women) formed the NBYDS

to promote the participation of 18 year olds and under in to the sport of Bowls. 

Each February a School of Excellence is held with the top two players from each section,

Junior 8-14 and Seniors 14-18 going forward to the EBYDS Regional Finals held at Melton Mowbray BC

with the opportunity to progress to the National Finals .

Over the years we have had great success with youngsters who have progressed through the Scheme

to becoming International players for England.
